The burgers at 5 Napkin Burger are definitely “to write home about” but nothing was as memorable for me as this dish….A dill pickle wrapped in pastrami and deep fried, served with sauerkraut and a drizzle of mustard oil. What a strange and intriguingly delicious appetizer! The golden crunch of the deep fried crust was a perfect lead-in to the salty, smokey, soft meatiness of the pastrami and the clean, cool burst of sour-sweet flavor from the pickle inside. The bits of fresh sauerkraut and the zing from the mustard-based sauce was a great complement to the fried coating and to the pastrami inside. A great bite of deli-inspired goodness.
